What is health insurance?

Health insurance is a type of insurance policy. It gives you access to private healthcare and helps cover the cost

It's also known as private health insurance or private medical insurance (PMI).

You pay a regular premium – and if you get unwell, your insurer can help towards the cost of private treatment.  Consider private health insurance if you want more flexibility with where and when you’re treated.

It can also help you avoid long waits for appointments and hospital treatment. Anyone with private health insurance can still use public healthcare (NHS).
