Vitality unveils first ever Health Claims Insights Report 

8 June 2022 – Vitality has today published a new Health Claims Insights report, detailing compelling insights from its claims data and key trends across the PMI market*. 

The report, which is the first of its kind within the industry, shows Vitality’s latest claim trends and among other insights, reveals a strong correlation between lifestyle behaviour and healthcare costs. 

According to the latest data by Vitality: 

  • Claim costs were up to 46% lower for those who are more active  
  • Demand for digital healthcare is at a record high, with Vitality GP consultation usage increasing by 70% between 2019 and 2021.  
  • Over 40% of all health claims were for Primary Care in 2021, compared to just 10% in 2015 
  • Over half (60%) of physiotherapy care started via a digital triage journey 
  • Breast cancer was the most common form of cancer claim in women (51%) and Prostate cancer was the most common form of cancer claim in men (27%)  
  • Keeping active is proven to improve the likelihood of surviving a cancer claim 
  • Talking therapies claims up 44% (between 2019 and 2021) on pre-pandemic levels The report also identified increasing demand for digital healthcare journeys, from virtual GP appointments to requesting and booking specialist appointments online.
